The time of Damask rose essential oil extraction, which is held in the villages and towns around Kashan, such as Qamsar, Niasar, Barzak and Mashhad Ardehal is in the middle of May to late June. This ceremony attracts more than a million tourists annually. There are 1500 workshops in Kashan produce 15,000 tons of heavy rosewater annually.
It is strange that the most beautiful and fragrant flowers of the country come from such a dry city near the desert. Kashan is located 240 km away from Tehran, in Isfahan province, between the Karkas Mountains and in the central desert of Iran. Its climate is warm and dry.
The two cities of Qamasr and Niasar have been hosting guests for two to three weeks in mid-May for a picking the flowers up ceremony. The two towns are full of Rose gardens and clear streams from springs that making them more interesting.
From mid-May to the next two or three weeks, many guests go to Kashan and Qamsar to watch the ceremony and stay at the Kashan and Qamasr ecolodges. When the sun is still not warm is the best time to attend the ceremony, the flowers that are picked up in the early hours of dawn are fresher and naturally better for oil extraction.
